How Ohio Dirt Bike Riders Can Help Protect Our Public Lands & Trails

Ohio’s state and federal lands are home to some of the most important off highway motorcycle opportunities in the state. But these lands and the trails we love, aren’t guaranteed. From funding challenges, maintaince, environmental concerns and administrative changes, OHV access requires constant stewardship and active involvement from the riding community.

Understanding the Challenges

Public lands face pressures from all directions: limited budgets, storm damage, overuse, political shifts, and competing recreational interests. Without proper advocacy and maintenance, trail systems risk closures or restrictions. OHV access isn’t automatically protected it’s earned through responsible use and ongoing partnerships.

Riders Play a Direct Role in Protection

The best way to preserve access is simple, show up and get involved. When riders participate in trail cleanups, maintenance days, and volunteer events, they demonstrate a commitment to being good stewards. These volunteer hours also generate financial credit for land agencies, funding they use directly to maintain and improve the trail systems we ride.

How OOHMA Works for Riders

OOHMA partners with state and federal organizations to defend existing riding areas, advocate for more single track focused trails, and support landowners who want to open public access. But this work only succeeds when riders stand behind it. Every member, every volunteer, and every hour logged strengthens our ability to keep riding areas open and expand opportunities.
